YouTube Kids

Created in 2014, the YouTube Kids application is aimed solely at children, with content carefully selected for them. It works on Android and iOS but not on Windows PCs. It mainly offers educational videos to better guide children and reassure their parents.

What does YouTube Kids offer?

YouTube Kids is a separate application for smartphones and tablets that provides access to many selected videos from the YouTube site. The application was created to provide a platform free of violent scenes, sexual content and age-inappropriate themes. To do this, the platform offers videos classified in four categories: shows, music, education and discovery. The application has a timer for the viewing time and a parameter to limit the amount of videos accessible over a given period. It is also designed to prevent videos from being published and hides the comment area usually available underneath the videos.

Over time, Google began limiting the application's video recommendations to videos from channels verified by the YouTube Kids team. It has also implemented settings that allow parents to disable the application's search feature. The U.S. giant plans to launch connected profiles for YouTube Kids in Europe, the Middle East and Asia in the near future, to allow parents to create individual profiles for each of their children on devices they control.
